The cross country team took their first step in the state series on Saturday. The girls won the Riverside Brookfield Regional by 1 point, 38-39, over the host school. On a very hard and hilly course to run, personal best times were hard to come by, but the girls had an excellent race pack strategy that kept the score low.
Julia Robleski, 2
nd place, and
Stephanie Gregersen, 3
rd place, led the way with all-regional honors, while
Kayla Lotz (8),
Sophie Lindquist (10) and
Mary Frost (15
th) rounded out the scorers.
Mary Frost's kick at the end allowed the Warriors to take the title by passing up one additional runner and lowering Wheaton Academy's score down.
On the boys side, the team advanced with a 106 point effort. Senior Jeffery Ridge was named all-regional, finishing 7 seconds off his all-time personal best. Senior
Ryan Wittstock, running 2
nd on the team, tied his all-time personal best on this hilly course.
