Boys Basketball:
12/6 vs Christ The King: The Wheaton Academy boys basketball team got back to winning ways on Monday night when they took down Christ The King 70-48 inside the Warrior Dome. A big second quarter saw WA take a 40-23 lead into halftime. Some good second half defense kept the Gladiators explosive offense tame as WA would run away to a 22 point victory. The win was their third of the season and brings their record to 3-3 on the season. Senior Sam Anderson had his best game of the year as he dropped 20 points. Junior Wade Davis also contributed 15 points as he shot a perfect 5/5 from three point territory. The boys take on Naperville North on Saturday.
12/11 vs Naperville North: WA Boys Basketball traveled to Naperville on Saturday to take on Huskies of Naperville North. The boys came out of the gates slow and entered the halftime break down by 10. A strong third quarter saw WA pull within three points entering the fourth quarter but Naperville North's strong final frame saw them take the win 61-49. Sam Anderson and Cole Andrews combined for 28 of the Warriors 49 points. The loss drops the Warriors to 3-4 on the season. They return home on Tuesday night (12/14) to take on conference opponent Aurora Central Catholic (2-6).
Girls Basketball:
12/7 vs Westmont: Wheaton Academy Girls Basketball bounced back from last week's loss on Tuesday when they hosted Westmont in another MSC conference matchup. A back-and-forth first half saw the girls take a 19-11 lead into half time. In the third quarter Westmont made things interesting as they outscored WA by six to cut the lead to 2 points entering the fourth quarter. With Westmont closing the gap the Warriors responded to the tune of a 17-2 fourth quarter scoreline to pull away and win by a score of 45-28. Junior Olivia Rinde led the way as she posted 17 points while also grabbing 9 rebounds. Emma Tate also stuffed the stat sheet as she scored 8 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists. The Warriors improve to 5-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
12/11 vs Rosary: The Wheaton Academy Girls Basketball team hosted Rosary (7-2) on Saturday in a battle of MSC Conference opponents. Rosary's full court press caused the Warriors problems all day and forced many turnovers. Despite the turnovers, the girls battled to a 21-21 halftime score. The second half was a different story as Rosary was able to pull away and win by a score of 48-38. Jillian Paulson (11) and Olivia Rinde (12) combined for 23 of the Warriors 38 points. The loss drops the Warriors to 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. They return to action next Saturday (12/18) when they travel to Lisle.
Wrestling:
12/9 vs IC Prep/Riverside Brookfield: WA Wrestling traveled to Riverside Brookfield on Thursday to take on IC Prep and Riverside Brookfield in a MSC Conference Triangle. Against IC Prep the Warriors got pins from Will Hupke and Caden Smith who pinned their opponents in just 17 seconds and 31 seconds. IC Prep would run away with it in the end, winning by a score of 48-24. In the match against Riverside Brookfield WA got pins from Will Hupke, Hunter Kamierczak, and Peter Johanik. RB got four pins of their own on the way to a 53-22 victory over the Warriors. Their record falls to 6-3 on the season. The boys have a quick around as they travel to Plano for a two day invite over the weekend.
12/10-11 @ Plano Invite: WA Wrestling traveled to Plano High School over the weekend for the Plano Reaper Classic Invitational. The two-day event started on Friday afternoon and concluded Saturday. The boys had several wrestlers who placed in their respective weight classes for the tournament. Will Hupke took 4th place in the 120lb weight class,
Daniel Kersey took 6th in the 132lb,
Caden Smith placed 4th in the 152, Hunter Kamierczak took 2nd in the 182 and
Peter Johanik took 3rd in the 220lb weight class. The Warriors return to conference play Wednesday where they will take on Ridgewood and Aurora Central Catholic inside the Warrior Dome.
