Boys Basketball:
January 4th vs Chicago Ogden International: The Wheaton Academy boys basketball team looked to carry their momentum from the East Aurora Holiday Tournament into their non-conference game with Chicago Ogden on Tuesday. A back and forth first quarter which ended all square at 14 was followed up by a huge second quarter for the Warriors. Both the defense and offense found their stride in the second quarter as WA was able to hold Ogden to just 4 points while putting up 19 of their own. The Warriors wouldn't look back, out scoring Ogden by 7 points through the last two quarters and running away to a big 64-42 win. The boys shot well from the field including 55% overall and 40% from three point territory. Senior Cole Andrews led the way with 24 points while Sam Dykema chipped in 12 of his own. The win takes the Warriors record to 9-6 on the season.
Girls Basketball:
January 8th vs Chicago Christian: The girls basketball team returned to action following their Christmas break on Saturday when they took on MSC opponent Chicago Christian. The girls came out of the gates strong, out-scoring the Knights 12-6 in the first quarter but Chicago Christian was able to flip the script in quarter number two. Scoring just two points in the second quarter WA went into the halftime break down 16-14. After an evenly played third quarter WA was able to pull away in the fourth as they outscored Chicago Christian 11-4 leading to a 36-30 victory. The shorthanded Warriors were led by big games from
Abby Schroeder (14 points),
Emma Tate (10 points), and
Olivia Rinde (10 points). The win brings the Warriors to 2-2 in conference play and 8-4 overall. They return to action Tuesday 1/11 when they travel to Elmwood Park.
