Boys Basketball:
1/11 vs Riverside Brookfield: The boys basketball team welcomed conference foe and one of the top teams in the Chicagoland area, Riverside Brookfield (10-2), to town on Tuesday night. Riverside Brookfield came out of the gates firing, and while WA kept it close for much of the first quarter, RB jumped out to an early 11 point first quarter lead. The final three frames brought much of the same as the bulldogs would run away to a big 77-49 win. Wade Davis (14), Sam Dykema (11), and Cole Andrews (11) combined for 36 of the 49 Warriors points. The loss sees WA's record fall to 9-7.
1/14 vs IC Catholic Prep: Wheaton Academy boys basketball completed their home stand on Friday night when continued conference play against IC Catholic Prep. Looking to bounce back from a tough loss against Riverside Brookfield Tuesday night, the boys did just that. After a tightly contested first quarter WA started to pull away in the second quarter taking a 6 point lead into the half time break. Some scrappy play kept ICCP in the game for most of the night but they never pulled back within 7 points as WA held on for the 9 point win, 60-51. The Warriors shot lights out on the night as they hit 58% of their shots overall and 52% from three. Wade Davis was the only Warrior in double figures as he scored 23 points on the night. The win was the Warriors 10th of the season. The boys now begin a stretch of 5 straight road games, not returning home until February 4th.
Girls Basketball:
1/11 @ Elmwood Park: The girls basketball team traveled to Elmwood Park on Tuesday night for another MSC matchup. The girls jumped out to a big 8 point lead after the first quarter leading by a score of 13-5. Elmwood Park would slowly chip away the rest of the night leading to a 32-32 tie after four quarters. One overtime wasn't enough to determine a winner in this one as the score remained tied at 39 all. WA finally found some separation in the second overtime out-scoring Elmwood Park 7-2 leading to a thrilling 46-41 2OT victory. Freshman Abby Schroeder led the way with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 steals. Emma Tate (11) and Olivia Rinde (10) both scored in double figures as well. The win brings the girls record to 9-4 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
1/13 @ St. Edward: WA girls basketball looked to build on their 2OT victory Thursday when they traveled to St. Edward. Thursday's matchup was back and forth for most of the evening with St. Ed's jumping out to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. WA chipped away in quarter two and was able to make it a 3-point deficit at the halftime break. A strong third quarter saw the Green Wave push their lead to 9 entering the fourth quarter. WA tried to climb back in the game but ran out of steam falling by a score of 54-49. Jillian Paulson returned to the lineup and led the Warriors with 18 points. Emma Tate also contributed 15 points and 6 rebounds. The Warriors fall to 9-5 on the season. They return to action Monday night when they make the long trip down to Kankakee for a matchup with Bishop McNamara. Monday will be game number 3 of six straight on the road.
