Lacrosse:
3/14 vs Glenbard West: The Wheaton Academy lacrosse team opened the 2022 season with a top-10 battle Monday night in front of a packed crowd at Performance Trust Field. The 3rd ranked Warriors took on the 8th ranked Hilltoppers of Glenbard West in a tightly contested game. The Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first quarter. A back and forth second saw the Warriors take a 5-2 lead into the half. The Warriors thought they had put the game out of reach in the 3rd quarter when they outscored Glenbard West 5-1 leading to a 10-3 lead. GBW wouldn't go away quietly and had a furious rally fall just short as the score finished 10–7. WA was led by Junior AJ Serna who had 3 goals while Gavin Pedone also added 2 goals. Sophomore Liam White led the team with 5 points as he had 1 goal and 4 assists. The win was the first of the season for the Warriors and see them open the season 1-0.
3/17 vs South Elgin: Coming off a big win Monday night over Glenbard West the boy's lacrosse team took on South Elgin in game two of the 2022 season. South Elgin, like WA, entered the game with a 1-0 record but Thursday night was all Wheaton Academy. The game was never in doubt as the Warriors scored early and often, running away to a 16-2 victory. Sophomore Liam White led the way with 5 goals and 1 assist while Juniors Noah Miller and Davis Schnieder scored 3 goals apiece. Defensively, Mike Edell led the way with 5 groundballs. The win brings the Warriors to 2-0 on the young season. Their focus now shifts to Wednesday, March 23rd where they will host preseason #9 Benet Academy, looking to avenge last season's loss.
Girls Soccer:
3/15 vs Benet: WA girls soccer opened the 2022 season on Tuesday when they hosted state power Benet Academy. It was a tough opener for the Warriors as they battled hard for much of the first half but still entered the break down 1-0. A strong opening 10 gave the Warriors some life but the Redwings were able to wear the girls down scoring three more times in the second half to win 4-0. The loss drops the Warriors to 0-1 on the season.
3/17 @ Timothy Christian: Looking to bounce back from an opening day defeat to Benet, the girls took to the road for the first time when they took on Timothy Christian on Thursday. A slow start put the Warriors in an early hole as they fell behind 1-0 three minutes into the game. WA would keep the pressure on and eventually find the equalizer courtesy of an Emily Setran left-footed strike. Entering the second half all square it was Timothy who once again struck first as they scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 60th minute. The loss sees the Warriors fall to 0-2 on the season. They will look to regroup and return to action next Tuesday (3/22) when they host Antioch.
Boys Tennis:
3/15 @ Batavia: The boy's tennis team opened the 2022 campaign by traveling to Batavia High School on Tuesday. In singles matches Senior Jeffrey Master defeated his opponent 6-1 and 7-5. On the doubles side, the Warriors dropped all three matches and fell by a score of 3-2 on the day. Their record now sits at 0-1 on the season. The boys will have their home opener next Tuesday 3/22 when they host Kaneland.
Baseball:
3/16 vs Hoffman Estates: WA baseball opened the season Wednesday with a big come from behind win over Hoffman Estates. Will Lechner was the winning pitcher for the Warriors going 4 innings allowing only one run on 3 hits and striking out 3. Zach Gardner went one inning allowing one hit and striking out 1 as well. At the plate, the Warriors were led by junior Grant Rojek. Rojek was 3-4 at the plate with 2 singles and a double. He had 4 RBIs and scored 1 run. Other notable plate appearances were Andy Roman going 1-2 with a solo home run and 2 BBs. Hudson Wiliams was 1-4 with a late-game 2 RBI single. The Warriors fell behind 4-0 after 2 innings but were able to stage a late comeback to win 9-5. The win is the first of the season for Wheaton Academy and sees their record open the year at 1-0.
3/17 vs Addison Trail: In their second game in as many days, the Warriors took on Addison Trail. With the game tied 1-1 for most of the day the Warriors ultimately fell by a score of 5-2. Hudson Williams led the Warriors going 1-2 with a single, BB, 2 stolen bases, and RBI. The loss drops the Warriors back to .500 with a 1-1 record on the young season. The Warriors are back in action on 3/23 at Kerry Wood Field at 7:15p against DePaul Prep.
