Lacrosse:
3/23 vs Benet: In another early season top-10 matchup the 3rd ranked Warriors took on 9th ranked Benet Academy. Coming off a blowout 16-2 victory over South Elgin last Thursday the Warriors looked to stay unbeaten in the early part of the 2022 season. In a back and forth game that saw the Warriors come from behind several times Sophomore Liam White scored with 50 seconds left to give the Warriors the 14-13 victory. The win brings the Warriors to 3-0 on the season. This was their only match of the week and takes the boys into Spring Break. They return to action Tuesday April 5th when they host Waubonsie Valley.
Girls Soccer:
3/22 vs Antioch: Looking to snap a two-game losing streak the WA girls soccer team hosted Antioch Tuesday night in the first-ever matchup between the two schools. Though WA dominated first-half possession the score remained 0-0 heading into the break. It wouldn't remain scoreless for much longer as Eva De Souza would open the scoring 5 minutes into the second half. De Souza's goal would end up being the first of 5 goals on the night for the Warriors, all within a 10-minute span. Sophomore Anna Africa would also get on the scoresheet just 3 minutes later with a left-footed strike from distance. In the next 7 minutes, WA would score three more times (De Souza 52', Setran 53', Africa 55') to kill off the game. Sarah Swoboda would pick up her first shutout of the year in goal. The win is the first of the year for the Warriors and brings their record to 1-2.
3/24 @ Chicago U High: Before taking a week off for Spring Break the girls would make the long trip down to Chicago to take on Chicago University High School. It was a wet, cold Thursday afternoon but that didn't stop the girls from keeping the momentum going from Tuesday's big win. It took just 12 minutes for Emily Setran to score her third goal of the season and give the Warriors an early 1-0 lead. Shortly before the half, Eva De Souza would score her third goal the season putting the Warriors up 2-0 heading into the intermission. U High wouldn't go away quietly as they would score within the first 10 minutes of the second half to cut the Warrior lead in half. That would be all for the scoring as the Warriors played some great second-half defense to get their second straight win and bring their record to 2-2. The girls will enjoy a week off before returning to action Monday, April 4th, against cross-town rival West Chicago.
