Warrior Football Loses First Game of Season

Falls to Riverside Brookfield 32-0

The Wheaton Academy Warrior football team experienced its first setback of the season, opening conference play with a 32-0 loss to a tough Riverside Brookfield team.  The Warriors found themselves in an early hole and could not dig out of it.  Two minutes into the game, Riverside Brookfield was up14-0 thanks to a 4th-down touchdown pass of 30 yards, and a Warrior fumble which set up the Bulldogs on the Wheaton Academy 1-yard line.

The Warrior defense held stout for much of the first half, but the Bulldogs were able to punch one in on a long drive of 67 yards, and scored again on a fake punt conversion for a touchdown.  Riverside Brookfield lead 26-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs scored again on a long touchdown pass off a Wheaton Academy turnover.  The Warriors were unable to find the end zone, and despite moving the ball effectively at times, ultimately lost 32-0.

On offense, Kent Harmon was the leading rusher, carrying the ball 11 times for 47 yards.  Ben Thorson completed 17 of 44 passes for 165 yards.

On defense, the Warriors were lead by senior linebacker Nori Kasai, who recorded 10 total tackles with 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble.  Dimitrie Skakavac also had a good game, recording 8 total tackles with 1 sack.

Next week the Warriors travel to play Glenbard South in another tough conference matchup.  Kickoff is at 7:15 PM.
