The Wheaton Academy Warrior football team suffered its second loss of the season, a 20-9 setback against conference foe Riverside Brookfield. The game was tough and physical in humid conditions on Friday night, and the Warriors came up just short.
Wheaton Academy capitalized on good field position to open the scoring for the game, a 6-yard touchdown strike from
Ben Thorson to
Noah Jones. After a failed PAT attempt, the Warriors lead 6-0. Riverside Brookfield would cap a drive with a scoring run in the second quarter, and after a blocked PAT attempt, the two teams were tied heading into halftime 6-6.
In the second half, the Warriors drove the length of the field but could not punch it in the end zone. Miles VanderKlok converted a 32-yard field goal attempt to make it 9-6. Riverside Brookfield promptly answered with a touchdown drive to make the score 13-9. Wheaton Academy held stout on defense, and the offense had the ball late in the game and deep in Riverside Brookfield territory, but fumbled a snap which Riverside Brookfield recovered. The Bulldogs would later intercept a desperation throw at the end of the game and return it for a touchdown to secure the victory at 20-9.
