Girls Soccer: WA girls soccer continued a stretch of MSC conference games when they hosted St Edward on Tuesday. After 20 minutes the score remained 0-0 but WA finally got the breakthrough from Senior Jocelyn Royce. After Royce's goal the flood gates opened as the girls would score 6 more girls before the half to take a 7-0 lead. The Warriors would tack on one more second-half goal as the game finished 8-0. The Warriors got goals from Haley Serna, Fionna Davis, Grace Platt, Lilly Lebo, Sydney Abbott, Emily Setran, and Jocelyn Royce (2). Freshman Noelle Niekamp made her first start in goal and picked up the shutout. On Thursday the girls welcomed Aurora Central Catholic to Performance Trust Field for an MSC crossover matchup. The story was similar as it took WA more the half the game to find a breakthrough. A second-half own-goal opened the scoring before Anna Africa (x2) and Sydney Abbott added goals of their own to help the girls to a 4-0 win. The two-win week sees the girl's record improve to 6-4-1 and 4-0 in MSC play. They return to action Monday afternoon when they travel to Westmont.
Track and Field: The boy's track and field team participated in a 4 team meet on Tuesday at St. Francis. The boys won the meet rather handily, mainly due to the fact that we stacked many individuals in each event. WA finished 1st overall with a team score of 198, followed by Timothy Christian with 126, St. Francis with 89, and Ridgewood with 88 points. The highlights for the day included the 4x800 team winning with a time of 9:06, Jalen Whitaker winning the 100m dash in a time of 11.76, Josh Strzalka winning the 400m dash in 57.48, and Caleb Yun winning his first race ever, winning the 1600m run in 5:10. Other highlights included freshman Danny O'Carroll and Luke Dorn finishing in 2nd and 3rd in the 1600, only one-tenth of a second apart, running 5:22.6 and 5:22.7 respectively; Sheldon Powell (2:08) and Shaymis Powell (2:20) both set personal bests in the 800. This past Saturday, the girl's track and field team participated at Glenbard West High School. The Wheaton Academy girls were able to compete against some of the best competition in the state and there were several outstanding performances. In the 100m, Victoria Powell (13.75) and Madi Jenkins (13.93) both broke 14 seconds. In the 200m, Annie Stoner ran 28.78 to break 29 seconds and she also ran a time of 64.13 in the 400m, placing her 4th all-time at Wheaton Academy in the event. Brooke O'Carroll (5:40) and Rachel Nelson (5:51) had strong performances in the 1600m. In the field events, Victoria Powell set a personal record of 15'1'' in the Long Jump, and Molly From matched her school record in the High Jump of 4'1'', while also breaking her existing school record in the Triple Jump with a new distance of 32'2.5''. The Warriors will compete this week at St. Francis High School on Tuesday and at West Chicago High School on Thursday.
Baseball: On Tuesday the boys hosted Ridgewood in an MSC conference matchup. Alex Bagley went 6 innings striking out 10 and only allowing 3 hits. Hudson Williams went 1 inning and struck out 1. At the plate, the Warriors were led by Andy Roman who went 2-3 with 3 RBIs, a double, and a home run. Hudson Williams went 2-4 with a single and a double. The 6-0 win was the 6th of the season for the team. Wednesday WA continue MSC play when they hosted St Edward. The Warriors defeated St Edwards by a score of 13-3 and were led by Grant Rojek who earned the win by going 4 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs. He struck out 4. At the plate, Rojek led the Warriors with 2 hits (single and double). Roman, Clegg and Manusos each had 2 RBIs. In their third game in three days the boys traveled to IC Catholic Prep where the bats were hot out of the gates. The Warriors defeated IC Catholic Prep Thursday by a score of 24-6. Will Lechner got the win going 3.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs and 2 hits. Will Clegg threw 1 inning striking out 2. At the plate, Alex Bagley was 3-4 with 2 doubles, 5 RBIs, and 1 BB. Andy Roman was 2-3 with 2 BB, a double, and 3 RBIs. On Saturday the Warriors completed their four-game week by defeating Ridgewood 18-3. JT Manusos went 3 innings with 4 Ks and allowed only 1 hit earning the win. Manusos also went 3-4 at the plate with 3 singles, 3 RBIs, and 3 Rs. Will Clegg was 2-2 with 3 RBIs and 2 Rs. The Warriors are back in action Monday at home against Aurora Central Catholic.
Lacrosse: The Warrior lacrosse team continued to put their undefeated record on the line when they traveled North to Gurnee for a top-10 matchup with Warren. The Warriors battled hard on the road with one of the state's best but ultimately fell 7-5. It was the first loss of the year for Wheaton Academy. On Saturday the boys returned home for their final regular season home game of the year when they took on New Trier. New Trier, another of one the state powers, jumped on the Warriors early scoring the first 3 goals of the game but the Warriors would battle back to knot it up at 3. The game was back and forth most of the night but New Trier would come out on top 11-8. Aiden Weisenborn led the Warriors with 3 goals. Jack Brand led the team with 10 groundballs. Tyler Sommer went 11 for 18 at the face-off circle. The losses drop the boy's record to 7-2. The boys return to action Monday night when they travel to Lincoln-Way West.
Boys Volleyball: In game one of three of the week the boy's volleyball team hosted conference rival Timothy Christian on Tuesday. After splitting the first two sets the boys were able to win the tiebreaking third set by a score of 25-18. Wednesday WA hit the road as they traveled to Christian Heritage Academy. There the Warriors took care of business on the road as they defeated CHA in two sets (25-21, 25-17). The boys completed three games in three days when they hosted South Elgin on Thursday. The Warriors battled hard but couldn't keep pace with a strong South Elgin team as they dropped both sets (17-25), and (20-25). After the three-game week, the boy's record sits at 5-2. They return to action Monday when they host Elmwood Park.
Boys Tennis: In what was supposed to be their first match of the week on Wednesday the boys traveled to Bartlett to take on the Hawks. In what sums up the spring weather-wise, the boys got halfway through before rain forced the remainder to be postponed. Thursday the boys returned home to host IMSA. At the varsity singles level Jeremy Kang (6-2, 6-3) and Jeffery Master (6-0, 6-1) both won in straight sets. On the doubles side, the boys lost all three matches leading to a 3-2 loss.
Softball: In their only game of the week the softball team was able to secure their first win in a high-scoring affair against Timothy Christian. After a back and forth game that saw both teams scoring several runs each in the first 5 innings, WA found separation in the 6th inning where they outscored the Trojans 4-0. Behind their big 6th inning the girls were able to hold on and win 22-19. Kiley Shahady went 5-5 at the plate, scoring 5 runs, and knocking home 4 RBI. The win brings the girl's record to 1-2 on the year. They return to action Tuesday (4/26) when they travel to Elmwood Park for the first of 4 games next week.
