Wheaton Academy Football Suffers First Loss of Season

Falls to Riverside Brookfield 45-21

The Wheaton Academy football team lost to Riverside Brookfield 45-21 on Saturday afternoon.  Trailing 7-0 after the first quarter and 14-0 early in the second, the Warriors got on the board with a 56-yard touchdown hookup from quarterback David Thrasher to receiver Dillon Oleson.  The Bulldogs of Riverside Brookfield took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown.  The Warriors scored again in the second quarter on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Thrasher to receiver Scottie McLean.  The Bulldogs took a 28-14 lead into halftime.

Riverside Brookfield took advantage of some Wheaton Academy miscues in the second half to tack on three more scores and extend the lead to 45-14.  Thrasher's 15-yards touchdown strike to tight end Marino Costello capped the scoring for the day.

Thrasher completed 16 of 33 passes for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Scottie McLean was the leading receiver with 5 catches for 81 yards and one touchdown.  

On defense, the Warriors were lead by Kyle Maranhas who had 7 total tackles.  Linebacker Camden Meade had an interception early in the game.

Next week, Wheaton Academy will travel to play Gelnbard South.  Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.
